Namysłów offers several starting points for planning your trip: Gothic architecture, the city’s history, exhibitions on regional history, milling traditions and a park that provides a refuge for waterbirds. Gothic Architecture, Fortifications and Views

Namysłów Town Hall is one of the few fully preserved secular Gothic buildings. Much of the city’s fortifications has also been preserved: around 80 percent survives to this day. Together, the town hall and fortifications bring the city’s history to life through tangible landmarks.

Another point of interest is the Wjazdowa Brama Miejska, also known as Brama Krakowska. Its viewpoint is open to visitors and offers a panoramic view of Namysłów. The present-day construction of Namysłów’s Gothic castle began around 1360 on the orders of Emperor Charles IV of Luxembourg. The castle is currently closed to visitors; bear this in mind if you are planning an indoor visit.

Regional History, Milling Traditions and Music

The Izba Regionalna at Szkolna 2 presents the region’s history in six exhibition rooms and organizes various temporary exhibitions. The Muzeum Techniki Młynarskiej focuses on something different: original milling tools are on display in its working section. Namysłów therefore offers both exhibition spaces devoted to regional history and a close-up look at a traditional craft.

The Namysłów Hejnał is another musical feature of the city. It plays daily at 12:00 from the town hall tower. It was composed by Eugeniusz Odoj, who was born in Namysłów. If you would like to include it in your day’s plans, check locally whether the daily schedule is still in effect.

A prior telephone arrangement is required for visits to Brama Krakowska and the Muzeum Techniki Młynarskiej. Call ahead to arrange your visit and confirm current opening times.

Island Park and Waterbirds

Centralny Park na Wyspie lies just beyond the northern walls of Namysłów’s old town. It occupies two of the three islands on the Widawa River. The third island is a protected refuge for waterbirds, which can be observed from a viewing tower on the neighboring island. Nature watching adds a distinct focus to the city’s historical and cultural attractions. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to focus mainly on architecture and exhibitions or also explore the protected island nature.

Getting There and Finding Accommodation

For train travel, Namysłów station on the Wrocław Główny–Kluczbork–Lubliniec line is a useful reference point. Check the latest timetable before setting off. Searching for hotels in Namysłów can go hand in hand with deciding which aspects of the city you would like to explore.
