Opole offers different ways to explore culture, history and nature: museums cover Polish song and regional history, while other places focus on fossils, geology or historic fortifications. When planning your trip, it is worth choosing the themes that interest you most—and not treating all the places as one single sightseeing itinerary.

Experience culture: from Polish song to a castle museum

In Opole, the Museum of Polish Song tells the story of Polish song from the 1920s to the present day. The museum includes recording booths for songs and a professional recording studio. It is also a cultural centre, hosting artist talks, concerts, museum classes and educational activities for children. This offers a range of points of interest, from music history to educational programmes. Individual events may change, so check the current programme if you have a specific date in mind.

The Castle of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg brings together two distinctive building phases: it was built in the 13th century as a Gothic residence and defensive structure, then redesigned in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. The Museum of the Silesian Piasts is housed in the castle. This makes it possible to explore architectural history and the museum in one place, without having to focus your visit on a single period.

Moszna Castle also offers a way to explore history alongside a year-round visitor programme. This includes guided tours, an app, access to the tower, themed programmes and three versions of outdoor team games. The Festival of Blooming Azaleas has been held at the castle since 1984. If you would like to plan your trip around a particular programme or event date, check the relevant details in advance.

Fossils, geology and outdoor trails

The Palaeontological Pavilion at JuraPark Krasiejów protects Europe’s largest fossil-bearing layer of Triassic amphibians and reptiles. The Science and Entertainment Park in Krasiejów comprises JuraPark Krasiejów and the Park of Science and Human Evolution. Those interested in the history of the Earth will find a thematic focus here that differs from the cultural history museums.

Góra Św. Anny National Geopark is one of three geoparks in Poland. A ten-kilometre geological walking and cycling trail runs through the area, with eleven geosites and information boards. Its length and stops offer practical guidance for planning; check the trail conditions before setting out. Góra Św. Anny is also home to a sanctuary visited by three popes. Geological themes and pilgrimage history meet here, but remain distinct reasons to explore the area.

Several cycling routes run through Stobrawa Landscape Park, including a marked red route that is also suitable for cycling. If you are planning an active day, it is worth considering a selection of routes; check the signage and trail conditions before setting out. Use the signage and trail conditions to guide your route choice.

Historic walls and regional cuisine

Paczków has preserved medieval defensive walls that reach up to seven metres high in places. They enclose the town in a 1.2-kilometre oval, with 19 towers and three gate towers. The Gasworks Museum in Paczków has a collection of gas meters described as the largest in Europe. The town fortifications and the collection offer different points of interest: a striking landmark on the one hand, and a specialised museum subject on the other.

In Nysa, St. Hedwig’s Bastion forms part of the town fortifications built in the 14th century. A tourist route passes through its historic corridors and forms part of the trail along the former fortifications of Nysa Fortress. The tourist information point in the bastion provides pilgrims travelling the Nyska Way of St. James with information about accommodation and dining along the route. This information service is intended for pilgrims on this route.

The Opolski Bifyj culinary route was established in 2015 and runs through the Opole Voivodeship, giving visitors the opportunity to get to know the region through its cuisine. It includes restaurants of historical and regional significance, businesses run by several generations, and newer restaurants. The Opolskie Wine Route promotes wine tourism in the Opole Voivodeship. Together, the two routes offer insight into different culinary themes without singling out specific venues or visits.

To help you choose, start by deciding what you would like to focus on: music and educational activities in Opole, castle history in Brzeg or Moszna, geology at Góra Św. Anny, cycling routes in Stobrawa Landscape Park, or historic fortifications in Paczków and Nysa. For culinary interests, explore the regional routes. Once you know which of these themes matter most to your trip, you can plan your stay around them.
