Woodland, rivers and cycling routes

The “Dookoła Kędzierzyna-Koźla” route passes through numerous large woodland areas within the city. It is available in three versions: 19.7, 28.1 and 47.8 kilometres. These different route lengths give you a practical choice when planning your route, without having to commit to a single distance.

Another option is the 40.6-kilometre “Wzdłuż Odry na południe” route. It follows less-travelled municipal roads and well-maintained field paths and can be ridden on touring or leisure bicycles. Information about the surfaces and route length helps you plan this tour as a dedicated day of cycling. In addition to the Oder, the Kłodnica, the Gliwice Canal, the Kłodnicki Canal and the Kędzierzyński Canal, as well as the smaller rivers Młyńska, Golka, Lineta and Liwela, flow through Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

Koźle: market square, fortress and museum

Koźle’s old town retains a medieval street plan with a rectangular central market square. The Planty gardens were laid out on the site of former fortifications. The square is home to historic townhouses, three sculptures of the Kozielskie Koziołki and a mermaid fountain opposite the goats. Here, you can see historic architecture alongside several distinctive works of art.

If you are interested in the former fortress, you can follow the “Szlakiem Twierdzy Koźle” route to surviving fragments and sites of former fortifications. The casemate powder magazine on ul. Grzegorza Piramowicza is also considered the only surviving building of its kind in Silesia. The Kłodnicki Canal adds to this historic focus: it was built between 1792 and 1812, and the section running through Kędzierzyn-Koźle is among the best preserved.

The Muzeum Ziemi Kozielskiej displays prehistoric tools from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages; medieval objects; silver 17th-century coins from the “Skarb z Koźla”; and cultural relics, objects and information relating to Twierdza Koźle. The museum is located in the basement rooms of the former south wing of the Silesian Piast castle beneath the castle courtyard, as well as in the observation tower. For a walk focused on more recent history, the “Szlakiem II wojny światowej” route starts at the “Śląskiej Bitwy o Paliwo Blechhammer – 1944” museum. The museum is located in the Osiedlowy Dom Kultury LECH in the Blachownia district, ul. Wyzwolenia 7; visits are possible by prior telephone appointment.

City routes, boat trips and Wodne oKKo

Four CityWalk routes are marked out in Kędzierzyn-Koźle. The accompanying information boards are supplemented by audio guides, which you can borrow from the city library at Rynek 3. A boat trip on the Oder and the Kłodnicki Canal, including passage through a lock, is considered one of the biggest tourist attractions in Kędzierzyn-Koźle and the surrounding area.

Wodne oKKo offers a variety of ways to enjoy the water and relax. Facilities include a children’s pool with a mini slide, water play features and underwater geysers, as well as a pool with massage jets, loungers, a water swing and an underwater geyser. There are also three indoor jacuzzis and one outdoor jacuzzi, a 47-metre slide with timing, a year-round current pool and a sports area with a swimming pool.

The sauna area includes a dry sauna for sauna rituals with room for 40 people, a dry sauna with infrared heaters, an herbal dry sauna and a humid floral steam sauna. There is also an ice cave, a cold-water plunge bucket, two cold-water pools and a relaxation room with heated ceramic loungers; an atrium and juice bar complete the area. This range of facilities makes Wodne oKKo a destination in its own right if you would like to include swimming and sauna options alongside city walks or cycling tours.
