Kożuchów offers a clear focus for travellers looking to include historic buildings and urban culture in their trip to Poland. The castle, town walls, moat, lapidarium and parish church represent different chapters in the town’s history. A cycle route also runs through the town, and a recurring festival adds another cultural dimension. When planning your stay, you can therefore weigh up whether architectural history, a walk, cycling or an event date should shape your visit.

Castle and cultural history

Kożuchów Castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century on the site of a medieval castellany castle. Today, it houses the “Zamek” Cultural Centre. The castle thus offers two distinct perspectives: its origins in a medieval context and its present-day institutional use. The Regional Chamber in Krosno Tower is also of interest for understanding the town’s history. Its numerous exhibits explore the history of Kożuchów.

Another historic highlight is the lapidarium. It contains nearly 200 historic gravestones dating from the 16th to the 19th century. This wide timespan provides a distinct way to explore the town’s past, alongside the architectural history of the castle and fortifications. The parish church of Matki Boskiej Gromnicznej is also among the older buildings: it was built in the 13th century as a single-nave stone structure. Together, these sites showcase different forms of historic heritage, from an early church and a medieval castle to gravestones from later centuries.

Town walls, moat and walks

The town walls and moat are among Kożuchów’s most striking features. Both survive today in almost their original lengths. This is a useful point of reference if you are interested in the history of fortifications and want to appreciate historic buildings not only individually, but also as part of the townscape. Kożuchów’s historic buildings can be enjoyed on a walk through the town’s streets. This makes the route through the town itself an experience in its own right, alongside visits to individual historic sites.

The town park offers another point of reference for getting your bearings. It is in the town centre, northeast of the buildings in the Old Town. Its location makes it easy to place the park in relation to the Old Town on a map, without confusing it with the historic buildings. If you are choosing between exploring the town and taking a detour to the park, you can consider both and weigh them according to your interests.

Cycling and cultural events

Cycling is another option to include in your travel plans: the “Kolej na Rower” cycle route passes through Kożuchów on the Stypułów–Sławocin section.

The International Henrykowski Festival has been held for years in Kożuchów’s historic interiors, and another edition has been announced. If you would like to combine your stay with the festival, check the dates of the announced edition before making plans.

Kożuchów as a destination for your stay

The historic buildings, largely preserved fortifications, walk through the town and cycle route running through it offer different experiences. When looking for a holiday apartment, consider which of these matters most for your trip: an interest in history, time spent in the town, cycling or a planned festival visit.
