When choosing accommodation in Pajęczno, you can consider which aspects of the destination interest you most. The Marian devotion at the parish church, the history of the former market square and the landscape features around 1000-lecia Park can serve as points of reference. A linden tree several centuries old and individual, dated activities add to these themes. This allows religious tradition, town history and landscape to be considered separately, rather than combining them into a single excursion theme.

Marian devotion and the parish church

The church in Pajęczno soon became a Marian shrine. Many of the faithful made pilgrimages to the image of Our Lady of Pajęczno, which was venerated as miraculous. The parish church of Our Lady and Saint Leonard is described as a Baroque Marian shrine dating from the 18th century. Its altar is carved and contains an image of Our Lady of Graces. The church is listed in the register of immovable monuments under number 249, dated 30 August 1967. Religious tradition, a carved altar and protected monument status each provide a distinct point of reference for exploring Pajęczno’s history.

The former market square and its town layout

Several single-storey limestone houses built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries remain on the former market square. The historic market area also preserves elements of the original town layout. An additional street leading from the middle of the southern side of the market has altered this layout. Taken together, the surviving houses and the changed layout tell of two different aspects of the place: the building style of the period and the fact that the market no longer follows its original course in every respect. Those interested in architecture will find specific details here that bring this local history to life.

Park, water basin and old linden tree

1000-lecia Park in Pajęczno includes the Matusowiec water basin; Lake Matusowiec is also located in Pajęczno. The park is described as one of the characteristic features of the Pajęczno municipality. The park and its waters are therefore among the destination’s distinctive landscape features. Another, different point of interest is a linden tree several centuries old in Pajęczno: its trunk circumference is 7 metres and its height is 8 metres. These measurements make the linden an easily appreciated natural feature, while the water basin represents a different aspect of the landscape.

Pajęczno in its geographical and historical context

Pajęczno lies on the northern edge of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. Two dated activities also provide context for Lake Matusowiec: kayak trips took place there on 8 July 2022. On 22 and 23 April 2024, two groups of students cleared several kilometres of forest paths from Rekreacyjna Street to 1 Maja Street in Pajęczno. The specific dates and endpoints distinguish these events and place each in its own time.
