Grzechynia: Beskid Landscapes and Village Culture

A figure of Saint Joseph, dating from 1900, stands in Tatarówka. In Działówka, a wooden bell tower adds to the scene: it houses the bell “św. Kazimierz,” donated in memory of Kazimierz Jancarz, the chaplain of “Solidarity” in Nowa Huta. A sculpture of Jesus in contemplation also stands in a niche in the tower. The Koło Gospodyń Wiejskich (Rural Housewives’ Association) in Grzechynia has been active since March 2003 and is based in the common room at the Dom Kultury (Community Centre). Its members take part in county-level competitions, for example those featuring harvest wreaths and regional dishes. The association also organises gatherings, meetings with residents and social events. These events feature traditional foods, artistic programmes, and newly composed songs and poems. Local cultural life thus extends beyond the visible figures and structures: community involvement and regional traditions are also part of Grzechynia’s character.
