Accommodation in Kozłów
Kozłów reveals itself through traces of a fortified manor from the late 14th century and the building history of the local church. A cycling route also leads to stops and landscapes in the surrounding area. This gives you a choice when planning between local history and a tour with several destinations.
Traces of a fortified manor
In the last quarter of the 14th century, Piotr z Kozłowa and his son Mszczuj built a fortified manor with a chapel in Kozłów. Faint traces of earthworks remain from the complex. A central, elliptical earthwork measuring about 55 × 35 metres and an adjoining oval extension to the south, measuring about 23 × 18 metres, give an impression of its layout.
A ditch 14 to 16 metres wide lay between the two areas. The dimensions and shapes describe the complex more precisely than a simple reference to a former fortification: the elliptical earthwork forms the central section, while the smaller oval extension adjoins it to the south. However, the traces are only faintly visible. If you are interested in historic sites, this gives you a specific reason to look at the form and arrangement rather than at surviving buildings.
Church history in Kozłów
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Kozłów was built on the foundations of earlier wooden churches. Its building history thus complements the story of the fortified manor: here, the focus is on the development of a church building, while there it is on the earthworks of a former complex. These can be seen as different ways of exploring the history of the place, without combining them into a single building history.
A cycling route also ends in Kozłów at the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, where a visit is planned. The church is therefore also a point of reference at the end of the route. This distinction can help you decide what interests you: the earthworks make the form of the fortification the focus, while the church has its own building history.
Cycling route and destinations in the surrounding area
A cycling route passes through Tczyca, where a fortified settlement site and the Neo-Gothic Church of St Giles are among the sights to visit. The route therefore links historical subjects across several locations. Tczyca is a destination in the area around Kozłów.
A stretch through the forest leads to Biała Góra. At 414 metres above sea level, it is described as the highest elevation of the Miechów Upland. The forest stretch also passes through the Biała Góra and Kępie nature reserves. This adds a high point and protected landscapes along the route to the historical destinations.
Other points of reference include an artificial reservoir, located 1.5 kilometres past Tczyca on the right-hand side of the road along the route, and Tunel, which the route reaches. There you will find the railway tunnel described in the route information as the longest in Poland. These details distinguish the destinations by character: Tczyca is associated with sightseeing, the forest stretch with landscapes and nature reserves, the reservoir with a specific roadside location, and Tunel with the tunnel.
Choose the right focus
If you are looking for a hotel in Kozłów, you could first consider whether your stay will focus mainly on the history of the place or also include several destinations along the cycling route. The local highlights are the faint traces of earthworks and the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Stops in Tczyca, the forest stretch with Biała Góra and the nature reserves, as well as points near Tczyca and Tunel, broaden the picture to include the surrounding area. This lets you tailor your destination search to the subjects you actually want to include in your trip to Poland.
