Discover the city’s history at your own pace
The Staromiejska tourist route is a city walk where visitors can discover historic sites and the history of Koszalin. Those interested in puzzles can also explore the Koszalińskie Quests: they use challenges to reveal the city’s Gothic monuments. Both offerings combine exploring Koszalin with its history, but each has a different focus.
At the museum in Koszalin, historical collections document the history of the city and its surroundings from the earliest times to the present day. The main site at 37–39 Młyńska Street has permanent and temporary exhibitions on ethnography, archaeology, history, contemporary art and old art. This brings together a range of subjects under one roof, from historical collections to art.
Individual buildings also tell stories from different eras. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built between 1300 and 1333. The Ignacy Jan Paderewski Amphitheatre was established in 1973 as a venue for the Festival of Polish Community Choirs, which had already been running since 1970. These two dates place the buildings in different periods of the city’s history.
Choose hiking and cycling routes by their course
The blue “Abducted Prince†hiking trail is 12 kilometres long and runs from Koszalin via Sianów to Góra Chełmska. This makes it easy to understand the hike by following a clearly named sequence of places. The cycling routes, in turn, differ in their courses and intermediate stops.
The Tychowski Trakt cycling route runs from Koszalin via Niekłonice, Świeszyno, Rosnowo, Pobądz and Tyczewo to Tychowo. The Rybogryfa Trakt runs from Koszalin, at the foot of Góra Chełmska, via Kłos, Węgorzewo and Policko to Dzierżęcino. The named places and route provide the main points of reference when choosing: one route leads to Tychowo, while the other starts at the foot of Góra Chełmska and ends in Dzierżęcino.
Leisure by the water and in green spaces
Wodna Dolina is a recreation and leisure centre created in 2014 on the Dzierżęcinka River. It includes a city beach and a swimming area supervised during the summer season. Wakepark Koszalin is also located there. For wakeboarding, it offers a two-tower cable system, equipment rental and instruction from instructors.
The Koszalińska Kolej Wąskotorowa offers a different perspective on water and landscape, with rides on a historic narrow-gauge railway along the Dzierżęcinka River and Lake Lubiatowskie. Książąt Pomorskich “A†Park includes a pond and the Dzierżęcinka River. The park covers 6.70 hectares; an area of 1.50 hectares is given for the river. Together with the trails and facilities at Wodna Dolina, these offer a range of ways to spend time in the area, without all providing the same experience.
