Nowogardek shows a rural side of Poland: the village has preserved its agricultural character and is one of the few villages to have done so. The landscape and village setting offer different starting points for planning your trip—from low hills and ponds to traces of Pomeranian architecture.

Rural character between two rivers

Nowogardek lies on low hills between the Błotnica and Dębosznica rivers. Its elevation ranges from 2 to 12.5 metres above sea level. Along the route through the village are ponds formed in former gravel pits. They link today’s landscape with the former use of these areas: the ponds are not a natural lake landscape, but were created in disused gravel pits.

For a stay in Nowogardek, the focus is therefore on specific features of the village: its agricultural character, its location between the two rivers, and the ponds along the route. These details help convey the character of the place without confusing it with a coastal or urban setting.

Village setting and orientation

On the left of the route, in the Nowogardek section, there is a rest area with a shelter, playground, and outdoor fitness equipment.

The village setting features numerous traces of Pomeranian architecture, including farm buildings. One building can be located particularly precisely: residential house No. 19 stands on the southeastern edge of Nowogardek. It faces the street, is set back within the courtyard, and has its ridge parallel to the street.

Kołobrzeg as a wider travel destination

Dźwirzyno is part of the Kołobrzeg travel destination. Dźwirzyno beach is a wide, sandy stretch of coast bordered by dunes and pine forest. It is suitable for walking and relaxing in the shade. During the bathing season, there are lifeguarded sections of beach, food and drink stalls, changing rooms, and toilets; some access points have been adapted for pushchairs and people with reduced mobility.

The landscape of the Gmina Kołobrzeg is also diverse, encompassing coastal dunes, peat bogs, pine forests, meadows, salt meadows, and river valleys. More than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded in the Gmina, including many protected species. Sphagnum mosses and marsh vegetation grow in the raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo; insectivorous plants can also be found there.

The Kołobrzeg travel destination combines outdoor activities on land with activities on the water. Grzybowo and Dźwirzyno have three Nordic walking routes of varying difficulty, running along beaches and through coastal forest. Dźwirzyno harbour was formerly a fishing harbour and is now a fishing and tourist harbour; coastal sailing, fishing trips, and sea excursions in small boats are available there. The 55-kilometre Wokół Jeziora Resko route runs mostly through the Gmina Kołobrzeg and also enters the neighbouring Gmina Trzebiatów.
