Dzwirzyno on the Baltic Sea: Beach, Dunes and Water Sports

Dzwirzyno’s wide, sandy coastal beach lies several kilometres west of Kołobrzeg. On the landward side, it is bordered by dunes and a pine forest. A modern viewing terrace at the beach offers views of the Baltic Sea and its sunsets. It is also a destination for a stroll and a stopping point for cyclists. You can enjoy the sea view from there without descending to the beach itself.

Sailing, Surfing and Harbour Trips

At Lake Resko, Marina Błękitna offers opportunities for sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. It is considered one of the most modern facilities in Pomerania. The former fishing harbour is now a fishing and tourist harbour. It is suitable for sailing close to the coast, fishing trips and boat trips out to sea on small vessels. Both activities on the lake and trips along the coast are therefore part of the town’s water sports scene.

The Centre for Water Tourism and Recreation rents out SUP boards, kayaks and pedal boats, as well as small sailboats of the Optymist, Eikplast and Omega types during the summer season. The options vary by type of water sport: alongside the sailing and surfing opportunities at the marina, paddle boats and pedal boats are also available to rent there. When planning your trip, you can consider whether you would prefer to sail, surf or go out in a smaller boat.

Dunes and Protected Nature

Northeast of Dzwirzyno lies Bór wrzoścowy, an ecological protected area. It encompasses an approximately two-hectare coastal raised bog forest habitat, unique on the Polish coast, in a shallow dune hollow, connected to coastal crowberry pine forests. The migrating dune “Patelnia” lies behind the “Havet” and “Geovita” hotels. It moves about two metres northeast each year—a tangible example of a landscape that changes over time.

Individual trees are also part of the town’s protected nature: a group of 16 pedunculate oaks on Wyzwolenia Street is protected as a natural monument. Their trunk circumferences range from 125 to 250 centimetres. Together with the bog forest and the migrating dune, these natural sites reveal other sides of Dzwirzyno beyond the beach and water sports.

Historic Buildings and the Wider Natural Area

One of the oldest listed buildings in Dzwirzyno is the former Elisabeth seaside sanatorium, now called “Bałtyk”. It is one of 22 buildings in the town that are protected as historic monuments. For those interested in local history, it offers another point of interest alongside the coastal and nature experiences.
