Wapnica between Jezioro Turkusowe and Pomeranian beech forest

The landscape around Wapnica is shaped by a typical form of Pomeranian beech forest, bodies of water and varied terrain. In the protected district, terminal moraine hills form the Pagórki Lubińsko-Wapnickie and the Dolina Trzciągowska valley; to the south lies the cliff coast along the Szczecin Lagoon. The cliff coast along the lagoon adds another landscape form in the south of the protected district to the hills and valley.

Jezioro Turkusowe and protected nature

Jezioro Turkusowe was formed by the flooding of a former calcium carbonate, or chalk, mine. As a result, its surroundings include not only the body of water but also a landscape character clearly shaped by former mining. A nature trail runs beside the strict reserve named after Prof. Szafer; the lake can be circumnavigated on scenic paths designated by Wolin National Park.

The strict reserve named after Dr Bohdan Dyakowski encompasses a section of the Pomeranian beech forest community with one-flowered melick. This gives you several ways to experience nature: You can observe the lake and its surroundings, take in forest communities or explore the landscape via designated paths. The protected areas stand alongside the open landscape impressions created by the lake, valley and lagoon.

Getting your bearings by the lake and the water

At Jezioro Turkusowe, the park provides parking spaces, information boards, tourist maps, rain shelters, benches and tables. Those who choose Wapnica as their destination will find a specific place here where they can first take in the landscape at their leisure.

Wapnica Marina is located on the eastern shore of Jezioro Wicko Wielkie in the northern bay of the Szczecin Lagoon. Thus, in addition to Jezioro Turkusowe, a second distinctive waterside setting forms part of the local landscape. For travelers wishing to combine waterscapes and nature observation, Wapnica can therefore be viewed from various landscape perspectives.

Hiking trails for short sections and stages

The blue hiking trail is 26 km long and can be completed in stages with an overnight stay in Wapnica. In addition, the blue tourist trail includes a 1.5 km section from Jezioro Turkusowe to the Zielonka viewpoint. The different trail lengths help you distinguish between planning a longer hike and taking a shorter section of the route. When planning your day, the 26-kilometer trail and the 1.5-kilometer section therefore stand alongside each other as different route options.

The Piaskowa Góra viewpoint is located on the southern shore of Jezioro Turkusowe and offers views of Wapnica, the Dolina Trzciągowska valley, Lake Wicko Małe and the Świna back delta.
