A palace park between architecture and lakeside scenery
The palace and park complex is located on the Sztynort Peninsula, surrounded by Masurian forests and lakes. The palace complex is a notable local example of the French Baroque layout type “entre cour et jardin”—between courtyard and garden. The park covers 18 hectares. The park of Pałac Lehndorffów w Sztynorcie contains a neoclassical tea house and a Neo-Gothic chapel.
The park’s history also offers a distinct perspective on the complex: in the 1770s, the 18-hectare palace park was considered the largest park in East Prussia. Sztynort and the palace park were also associated with oak trees. If you are interested in historic sites, this combination of architecture, park and landscape gives you a clear theme to explore.
Two e-museums with different focuses
MEMUAK in Sztynort comprises the eMuzeum Środowiska and the eMuzeum Żeglarstwa. The former focuses primarily on the diversity of local flora and fauna and on the landscape; it offers interactive activities for visitors. The eMuzeum Żeglarstwa features a multimedia exhibition on the history of sailing and yacht handling. This lets you explore different interests during a single museum visit: nature and landscape on the one hand, sailing and yacht handling on the other.
The two exhibitions offer different perspectives without requiring you to choose just one subject. If you want your trip to include both Masurian nature and sailing history, the two e-museums provide specific points of interest for both. Check current visitor arrangements before planning a visit.
Water, cycling route and activities
Port Nowy Sztynort has more than 450 moorings. Motorboat courses may be available at Port Nowy Sztynort; confirm the current offer before booking. Diving trips can start from Sztynort. If you plan such a trip, check availability in advance.
You can also include Sztynort in your plans by bike: a cycling route runs through the village. Along the route is the bridge between Lakes Dargin and Kirsajty, described as a special kind of “observation tower.” Beach volleyball competitions have been held in Sztynort since 2020. Alongside the museums and park, the route and sporting events offer different ideas to consider when choosing what to do on your trip.
Culture in the wider Węgorzewski destination
In addition to Sztynort’s own attractions, the wider Węgorzewski destination offers further cultural points of interest. Cmentarz nad jez. Święcajty is a cemetery for soldiers who fell in the First World War; it contains the graves of 344 German and 234 Russian soldiers. The grounds of Muzeum Kultury Ludowej include a small open-air museum of traditional Masurian architecture, including wooden homes from the 18th and 19th centuries. These places broaden the picture of the destination’s cultural history, but are separate attractions from the palace park and museums in Sztynort.
