Kayak Route and Lake Bełdany

There is a kayak launch point by the road bridge in Iznota. Check the condition of the launch point on site before your visit. From Iznota, the kayak route runs across Zatoka Iznocka to Lake Bełdany. The lake covers 940.6 ha and is part of the Masurian Lake District route. The Krutynia flows into Lake Bełdany about 0.5 km from the launch point. This makes it possible to distinguish the launch point, the river mouth and the destination lake on the map.

The Krutynia offers a different point of reference in the surrounding area: its kayak route is over 100 km long and runs from Sorkwity on Lake Lampackie to Ruciane-Nida on Lake Nidzkie. Information about this long route refers to the wider area, not to a route through Iznota. When choosing your outing, it is therefore useful to consider whether you want to focus on the connection from Iznota across the bay to Lake Bełdany, or view the Krutynia as a longer river route.

The Krutynia Landscape in the Surrounding Area

Downstream of Ukta, the lower section of the Krutynia lies within the “Krutynia” nature reserve, sometimes also called “Krutynia Dolna.” A two-kilometre stretch downstream of Ukta is known as “Mała Amazonka.” Its name reflects the numerous meanders, fallen tree trunks and inaccessible, marshy banks. Alongside the large lake and the described kayak connection, this offers a different kind of river landscape: a specifically named stretch characterised by a winding course and marshy banks.

Galindia and Themed Experiences

Galindia is located in Iznota, directly on the shore of Lake Bełdany. The grounds feature large sculptures and trees that grow with their roots facing upwards. Its Old Prussian-inspired design provides a distinctive touch alongside the waterways and landscape descriptions. In 2020, Galindia’s offerings included woodland walks, trips in boats designed in an Old Prussian style and themed events.
