Purda was one of the larger centers of Polish cultural life in Warmia. Gothic brick churches, marked country trails and a water route offer different cultural and active perspectives on the area. When choosing a stay, you can weigh historical architecture against different ways of getting around.

Purda and its architectural history
The Gothic brick Church of the Holy Cross and St. Michael the Archangel represents Purda’s historical architecture. It may have been built in the second half of the 15th century and was later expanded. Bishop Marcin Kromer consecrated it in 1580, and side aisles were added in 1929. Its architectural history thus includes a possible, cautiously dated origin and later building phases. It is also believed that Purda had an earlier wooden church before 1419; it may have been built around 1400. The dating of this early church remains uncertain, while the brick church has a documented consecration and a later addition. Visitors interested in the development of historical architecture will find several chronological reference points in the town’s history.
Marked trails across the countryside
The marked trails vary in route and length. The red-marked Trail II starts and ends in Purda and is 10 kilometers long. The blue Trail 42 runs from Patryki through Purda to Giławy; it is 13.5 kilometers long, with a stated duration of 2 hours and 15 minutes. The green-marked Trail 40, also called Green II, runs from Marcinkowo through Purda and back to Marcinkowo. It is 22 kilometers long, with a stated duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes. This trail runs along forest and field paths. By length, Trail II is the shortest, Trail 42 is in the middle, and Trail 40 is the longest of the three. Their connections to local places also differ: Trail II starts and ends in Purda, while the other two routes include Marcinkowo, or Patryki and Giławy. Check the local trail markings and conditions before setting out.
Kośna–Łyna water route
The Kośna–Łyna water route complements the land trails with a kayaking route. It runs from Łajs via Lake Kośno, the Kośna River and several canals to Lake Silickie. In Purda, the historic Gothic church is one of the sights along the way. The church is therefore a named point on the route, which continues to Lake Silickie. Comparing land and water routes, visitors can choose between marked trails across the countryside and a kayaking route across a lake, river and canals.

The Gminna Biblioteka Publiczna in Purda, at Purda 12, is a resource for readers. It is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Wednesdays, opening and closing times are one hour earlier than on the other listed weekdays.
