Zyndaki: Lake District and Krutynia

Zyndaki combines a connection to the Krutynia, a location on Lake Warpuńskie, and historical traces in the surrounding area. The Krutynia River trail passes through the village and is why Zyndaki is now considered a tourist destination. At the same time, Zyndaki and Warpuny lie on the eastern shore of Lake Warpuńskie. Lakes with different features

The Krutynia River trail and the wider network of waterways

The Krutynia is also part of a broader network. In the wider municipality, streams connecting Lakes Warpuńskie, Zyndackie, Gielądzkie, Lampackie, and Lampasz form the upper course of the Krutynia. In addition to the river trail through Zyndaki, this upper course describes a geographical scale that extends beyond the village. For your planning, this means distinguishing between the route’s direct connection to the village and the interconnected waterscape of five named lakes.

Written history and the hillfort

The first written records of Zyndaki date from 1373. Archaeological work in 1930 showed that a Prussian hillfort site existed in Zyndaki. The two dates refer to different historical evidence: 1373 relates to the written history of the village, while 1930 dates the archaeological work. This distinction is important when considering the past, because the early written reference and the archaeological investigation are two different ways of learning about Zyndaki’s history.

Nearby, the visible remains of the Prussian hillfort site form a mound about two metres high. It lies west of Zyndaki on the isthmus between Lakes Zyndackie and Warpuńskie. The approximate height gives an idea of the scale of this visible remnant; its position on the isthmus places it within the surrounding lake landscape. The directions are different: the mound lies west of the village, while Zyndaki and Warpuny lie on the eastern shore of Lake Warpuńskie.
