Town Hall, Old Town and Museum
The town hall was built in 1825. As a central feature of the market square, it is a showcase for the town; it also houses a branch of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria. The historic centre is characterised by 19th-century listed tenement houses and cobbled streets. Together, these buildings and streets convey the character of a former small Masurian town.
The museum in Mrągowo features a permanent exhibition on the history of the town and the region. Its timeline spans from the Stone Age, through the period of Roman influence, to modern and contemporary times. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions on a range of topics, including the history of tourism in Masuria, as well as art and local events. Culture on Lake Czos
A lakeside promenade runs along Lake Czos in the town centre, and there are quiet beaches there too. The amphitheatre by the lake hosts festivals and music events. These include the International Country Picnic, the Festival of the Culture of the Eastern Borderlands and the Belcanto Opera Festival. The programme ranges from a country festival to a cultural festival and opera. Discover the Town’s History Actively
The Mrągowo Tower is historically known as Wieża Bismarcka. It was ceremonially opened on 18 August 1906 and is considered the first Bismarck Tower in Masuria. It is also regarded as the best-preserved structure of its kind in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. During a visit, 100 steps lead past themed exhibitions to views over Mrągowo, the surrounding lakes and the Masurian forests.
Another way to explore MrÄ…gowo is the “MrÄ…gowscy Kowboje†quest. The route is 6 kilometres long and takes about two hours to complete. It starts at MrÄ…gowskie Centrum Kultury, ul. Warszawska 26. All you need to take part is a puzzle leaflet: rhyming clues lead you around the area and, at the end, to a “treasureâ€. The “Poznaj MrÄ…gowo†quest also introduces the town’s history and attractions.
Water Routes and Other Activities
For a longer trip on the water, a 36-kilometre kayaking route on the Dajna connects Piecki, Mrągowo and Święta Lipka. It passes through the lakes of the Mrągowo Lake District. This is a different way to experience the area from exploring the town’s streets, exhibitions and the views from the tower. Which option suits your trip depends on whether you would rather focus on town history, events or a longer paddling route.
The Lemur Park ropes course is another activity in Mrągowo. It has dozens of obstacles and courses hundreds of metres long, with varying levels of difficulty. At the Museum of Military Technology, visitors can touch the exhibits and enter many of them. These activities offer different experiences: physical challenges on the ropes course, an interactive way to discover military technology exhibits, or a route through the town’s history.
