The promenade along Jezioro Ełckie, a ropes course on the lakeshore and an educational park devoted to astronomy and physics appeal to different interests. The more than six-kilometre-long promenade along Jezioro Ełckie has a path for walking and cycling. It is suitable for strolls, family bike rides and inline skating. This gives you a choice between a leisurely walk and a more active outing on wheels or inline skates. When planning, you can choose how to use the promenade to suit your preferences.
There is also a ropes course with three routes on the shore of Jezioro Ełckie. They have different difficulty levels, adapted to the age of the users. This offers something different from a walk or bike ride: the focus here is on climbing the courses. If you plan to visit the park during your stay, check before you go whether it is currently open.
Learning through play and city history
Kopernika Park is designed as an educational park. Through playful activities, it aims to introduce children and young people to astronomy and physics. It complements the activity-focused options by the lake with a place where the natural sciences take centre stage. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between spending time outdoors on trails and visiting a site with an educational focus.
Another historic landmark is the water tower in Ełk. It was built in 1895 in what was then Przedmieście Garncarskie. The tower houses the Muzeum Kropli Wody, whose exhibits explore the past of the city and region. The museum is closed indefinitely. The tower therefore remains an important historic site in the city, while a museum visit is currently not possible.

Beyond Ełk, the broader destination of Lyck offers more options to consider when planning your trip. Lake Ełk, located in the centre of Ełk, offers opportunities for sailing, stand-up paddling and fishing. Two bathing beaches are right by the promenade. These water activities add more ways to experience the lake to the walking and cycling path.
For a longer outing, the blue, 30-kilometre “Morenowe Wzgórza” trail runs from Ełk via Straduny, Piaski, Malinówka, Królowa Wola, Czerwonka, Grabnik and Chrzanowo, then back to Ełk. The Papal Trail offers a different historic connection: it begins at the place in Ełk where Saint John Paul II celebrated the Eucharist on 8 June 1999. Its individual stages can be covered on foot or by bike; in winter, it is also intended for use on skis. These details clearly distinguish it from the shorter, more than six-kilometre lakeside promenade.
Tourist train rides on the Ełk Narrow-Gauge Railway are also part of the broader destination of Lyck. The diesel-hauled trains run on the Ełk–Sypitki–Ełk route, according to a timetable or by request. If you want to include a ride in your plans, check the timetable or the option to book in advance.
For reference: Ełk is served by national roads 16 and 65 and railway lines 38, 41, 219 and 223. The train station and bus station are right next to each other; their addresses are 16 and 1 Dąbrowskiego Street, respectively. This lets you distinguish between road and rail connections when planning, without confusing local routes with longer excursion routes.
