The Góra Sobień Nature Reserve covers 5.34 hectares. It was established on December 10, 1970, and is located in the village of Manasterzec in Lesko Municipality. From a Nobleman’s Village to a Basilian Monastery
Manasterzec was probably founded in 1433. Its first written mention dates to 1436, by which time it was already a nobleman’s village in the Sobień estates of the Kmita family. This early reference places Manasterzec in a specific historical landscape, whose name also appears in connection with Sobień Castle.
Another part of the village’s history is linked to a Basilian monastery. In the 18th century, it stood on a hill between the upper end of Manasterzec and neighboring Bezmiechowa. The settlement took its name from this monastery. After the monastery was dissolved, the Church of the Dormition of the Holy Mary remained until 1875. The monastery and church thus belong to a different historical period from the village’s first written mention.
