Swibno (Świbno): Coast, Hiking Trails and Ferry Crossing

Swibno (Świbno) is a destination for travelers who want to consider the coast, outdoor activities and culture together when planning their trip to Poland. The sea, hiking and cycling trails, a ferry connection, and sacred and historical sites offer different focal points for planning each day.

Sea bathing on the Zatoka Gdańska

The designated Gdańsk Świbno bathing area covers a 100 m stretch of shoreline at beach access point no. 7: 50 m to the right and 50 m to the left of the access point. It also extends 50 m from the shore into the Zatoka Gdańska. For the 2026 summer season, Świbno was planned as one of nine guarded bathing areas in Gdańsk.

Hiking trails connected with the island

The Szlak Wyspy Sobieszewskiej is a 14 km-long, green-marked PTTK hiking trail that runs entirely through the picturesque area of Wyspa Sobieszewska. In Świbno, this trail ends at the ferry crossing. It is also part of the international long-distance hiking trail E-9, the coastal trail that runs, among other places, along the Polish coast. A walking trail is also designated in the “Mewia Łacha” nature reserve.

Cycling route and seasonal ferry

The Wincenty Pola cycling route reaches Świbno after 11.5 km from its starting point. From May to October, cyclists can continue their journey along the Mierzeja Wiślana outside Wyspa Sobieszewska by taking the Świbno–Mikoszewo ferry across the Przekop Wisły. For a bicycle trip, the seasonal connection across the river cut is therefore also a specific part of planning the stages.

Spatial character

Świbno belongs to a corridor with loosely developed residential and residential-service buildings along the main traffic route of Wyspa Sobieszewska. This corridor separates the beach, dune and forest belt from the agriculturally characterized area that occupies most of the southern part of the island.

Sanctuary and obelisk

Świbno is home to the Milenijne sanktuarium św. Wojciecha Chrzciciela Gdańska, the Millennium Sanctuary of Saint Adalbert, the baptizer of Gdańsk. It was established in the parish in Świbno on April 20, 1997; the church received the title “Pomnik Tysiąclecia”. On the approach to the road ferry across the Przekop Wisły, the Pomnik 100-lecia Przekopu Wisły stands on the embankment on ul. Boguckiego. The obelisk commemorates the centenary of the Przekop Wisły.
