Lakes and Protected Landscapes

Jezioro Gostudno in the municipality of Człuchów covers 46.38 hectares and is fed by the Czerwonka. Jezioro Bardze lies within the “Czerwona Woda nad Babilonem” Special Protection Area. At Jezioro Sporacz, the lake, marsh and forest together form a nature reserve shaped by water and flora. These examples show different relationships between bodies of water and their surroundings: a tributary, a protected area, and a natural landscape comprising water, marsh and forest.

Smaller areas can also be important for understanding the landscape. The “Sosny” forest nature reserve in Sieroczyn covers 1.55 hectares and protects valuable plant, fungal and animal species. Jezioro Krępsko, meanwhile, has three islands; the largest covers 4.13 hectares. Alongside protected habitats, these are specific landscape features that are easy to distinguish from one another.

Sailing, Fishing and Trails in Nature

Sailing takes place on Jezioro Rychnowskie, and the VI KING sports club’s pier is nearby. The “Rychnowy” recreation area by the lake covers just under two hectares. Jezioro Krępsko has numerous spots suitable for recreation and is also suitable for fishing. These offer different ways to enjoy the water: sailing on Jezioro Rychnowskie, and recreation and fishing at Jezioro Krępsko.

The Kamionka begins near Wierzchowo, at the border of the municipality of Człuchów. This meandering river flows through fields, meadows, ravines and forests and is suitable for canoe trips. Its river landscape adds an option for active days alongside the lakes. The municipality of Człuchów also offers opportunities for cycling and trekking. If you choose your trip based on activities, you can compare these options with the specific waterside locations without treating the experiences as interchangeable.

There is also a named excursion option for families: children’s birthday parties can be organized at Canpol Wonderland family amusement park in Człuchów. Team outings and bachelor parties can also be organized there. The park is a place for organized events, while the lakes, river and trails offer other ways to plan your trip.

Churches and Historic Sites

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Polnica was built in 1780–1781 and is the oldest surviving church in the municipality of Człuchów. Another historic stop is the branch church of St. James the Apostle in Krępsk. It dates from 1737 and has a Baroque interior. Its furnishings include a pulpit from the castle chapel in Człuchów—a specific connection linking the church to another place.

In Stołczno, next to the palace, is a landscape park dating from the mid-19th century, which is listed in the register of monuments maintained by Poland’s National Heritage Board. Another striking site is the glacial erratic, colloquially known as the “Romantic Stone”: it weighs 60 tonnes, has a circumference of 13 metres and is estimated to be more than 600 million years old. The church, park and erratic offer three different reasons to explore architectural history, heritage conservation and the history of the Earth.
