City History and Routes
The monument to General Mikołaj Bołtuć stands in the centre of Łomianki. Another historical connection dates back to the 15th century, when the first church was built in Łomianki and a new parish was established. The parish is dedicated to Saint Margaret. Together, the central place of remembrance and the early beginnings of the parish reflect different periods in the town’s history.
The “Spacerownik po Łomiankach” complements these individual cultural points of interest with a choice of routes: seven routes lead through the town and its surroundings. This means that Łomianki offers both a specific central landmark and routes that extend beyond the town itself. If you plan to follow a route, check current trail conditions before setting out.
Protected Areas and River Landscapes
The Jezioro Kiełpińskie nature reserve is located in the municipality of Łomianki. The 19.7624-hectare water reserve protects a well-preserved oxbow lake of the Vistula and its characteristic fauna and flora. Nearly the entire protected area lies within the “Kampinoska Dolina Wisły” Natura 2000 site (PLH140029). Access to the nature reserve is restricted; take these restrictions into account when planning your visit.
The Ławice Kiełpińskie bird sanctuary has a different focus. Within the municipality of Łomianki, it covers 328.1683 hectares; further sections lie in Jabłonna and Białołęka. The area protects nesting sites for water and marsh birds. These include colonies of little terns and nesting sites for black-headed gulls, common gulls, common terns, little ringed plovers, ringed plovers, common sandpipers, goosanders and kingfishers. Access is also restricted here. One protected area preserves an oxbow lake and its natural environment, while the other is particularly notable for its importance as a nesting area.
Another natural monument can be found on the road to the Jezioro Kiełpińskie nature reserve: four white willows (Salix alba) designated as natural monuments stand there.
Ferry and Leisure Activities
In spring and summer, the “Turkawka” ferry connects Łomianki with Nowodwory. Each crossing carries twelve passengers and the same number of bicycles. Its capacity is therefore specified for both passengers and bikes. If you plan to take the ferry, check its availability before travelling.
The municipality of Łomianki has also developed the recreation area at Jeziorko Pawłowskie, with paths, a pier and platforms. The paths have an ecological mineral-resin surface; facilities include benches, loungers, a hammock and chess tables. Here, landscaped areas for spending time outdoors shape the offering, whereas in the protected areas, the natural environment and its protection are the main focus.
Park Linowy Łomianki offers several rope courses with different levels of difficulty. Easier sections are intended for younger participants, while more challenging ones are for older children and adults. The park operates seasonally and is closed outside its operating period. Another option is the swimming pool with sports and leisure facilities at the Integracyjne Centrum Dydaktyczno-Sportowe in the municipality of Łomianki.
