Niemojewice is now one of the districts of Warka and lies on the left bank of the Pilica. The area's history dates back to the early Roman Imperial period; historical traces also point to an old trade route. On the water, options range from a short stretch for kayaking to a proposed route lasting several days. These different time scales help you place the area in context between history and river landscape.

Archaeological Finds and Historical Traces

Niemojewice is dated as a settlement to the early Roman Imperial period, more precisely to the years 0 to 200 AD. During archaeological work, a post-built dwelling was discovered in an orchard. This dating and the structural evidence offer a concrete insight into the area's early settlement history.

Excavations also uncovered pieces of slag, pottery shards, a spindle whorl, and other valuable objects. The slag may point to the processing of bog iron ore; this remains a possibility. Together with the discovered dwelling, the finds supplement the early dating with further archaeological traces.

One of the earliest written mentions of Niemojewice dates from the early 15th century. In a charter from 1406, the Bishop of Poznań, Wojciech Jastrzębiec, transferred the tithe from the ducal village of Niemojewice to St John's Cathedral in Warsaw. Thus, alongside the archaeological history, there is also a specific written record from the area's history.

Another historical trace leads back to the 16th century: at that time, Niemojewice had an inn known in Masovia, located on a busy old trade route from Warka via Przybyszew to Nowe Miasto. The route and the inn place the area in a historical context that extends beyond its immediate surroundings.

Kayaking Routes on the Pilica

The Niemojewice–Warka kayaking stretch is 4 kilometres long and takes about one hour. It is described as a very short route; the actual duration may vary depending on water conditions. The launch point on the bank is considered very accessible, and no obstacles are noted along the route.

The proposed Szlak Pilicy differs in length and time commitment. The 79-kilometre route runs from Nowe Miasto nad PilicÄ… via Niemojewice to Mniszew on the Vistula; three days are allocated to complete it. When comparing the two options, the time required is a helpful distinction: about one hour for the short stretch, compared with three days for the longer proposal.

The Area Around Niemojewice

The nearby surroundings also offer their own sense of the landscape. Between the Pilica and the escarpment near Bielany and Niemojewice lies an area currently overgrown with shrubs, which residents of Warka use for outings and walks. Together with its location on the left bank of the river, this makes the Pilica a recurring point of reference in the area—whether for finding your way around the settlement, or for the kayaking routes and walks described here.

For planning your trip, two distinct focal points are available: the archaeological and written traces of the area's history, and the river route with its clearly specified distances and durations. If you are looking for a hotel in Niemojewice, you can use these themes as a starting point for choosing suitable accommodation for your stay.
