Hiking trails to Ślęża and activities at the pass
The yellow hiking trail to Ślęża runs from Sobótka railway station via Przełęcz pod Wieżycą to the summit. The red hiking trail to Ślęża also starts at the railway station. Both routes therefore share the same named starting point; the pass and summit are also part of the route described for the yellow trail. The Wieżyca climbing park is located at Przełęcz pod Wieżycą, next to the Dom Turysty PTTK „Pod Wieżycą“. A marked MTB route to Sobótka-Górka Castle also starts at this pass. Museum and town history
The Muzeum Ślężańskie im. Stanisława Dunajewskiego is housed in a Renaissance building erected around 1568. Its permanent exhibitions cover several topics: they explore the property of the Ślęża Canons, ancient beliefs, and Sobótka’s development from a market settlement into a modern-era town. Other exhibitions are devoted to the people and nature of Ślęża. A visit to the museum thus connects local history with the natural setting that defines Sobótka geographically. The town’s buildings also tell different stories. The present-day Gothic Church of St. James the Greater dates from the mid-15th century and stands at the upper end of the market square. A Romanesque lion sculpture has been reused in the base of its tower. The combination of Gothic church architecture and an older Romanesque detail makes the church interesting for visitors who want to look out for individual architectural traces as they explore.
Churches and pilgrimage history
The Sanctuary of St. Anne in Sobótka began as a late Gothic chapel built in the 14th century for pilgrims. They came to see the miraculous figure of St. Anne Samotrzeć. Its historical connection sets this site apart from the church on the market square: here, the focus is on its traditional role as a pilgrimage site, while at the other church, visitors can look out for Gothic architecture and the reused Romanesque feature.
