Lubawka: Town Hall, Churches and Routes
Accommodation in Lubawka
Lubawka combines tangible architectural history with routes whose descriptions specify clear starting and finishing points. The town hall tells the story of several construction phases; two churches reveal different historical layers. For outdoor activities, choose between the Nordic walking route to the Kruczy Kamień Nature Reserve and the Graniczna mountain biking trail. You can shape your stay around historic buildings or clearly described routes. Before setting out, check current trail conditions and markings.
Town Hall: Several Construction Phases, Several Stylistic Features
Lubawka’s town hall was built in 1726 on the foundations of an older building. Less than ten years later, it burned down completely; it was enlarged during reconstruction. In 1784, it was given a tower with a spire, and the town hall was extended in the second half of the 19th century. Its late Baroque character displays Neoclassical features and a Neo-Gothic tower. The building is considered a representative example of a modern-era public building in Silesia. The chronology and stylistic description complement each other: one covers the fire, reconstruction and extension; the other, the coexistence of architectural features. This means Lubawka’s town hall cannot be reduced to a single year of construction or a single stylistic label.
Churches with Different Historical Layers
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a multi-phase hall church with origins in the 15th century. Despite its Baroque renovation, Gothic elements remain visible. This contrast offers a different perspective on historical development than the town hall: the parish church brings Gothic origins and later Baroque alterations together, while the town hall’s history is shaped by the sequence of fire, reconstruction and extension. Another architectural landmark is the Church of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, directly connected to the Abbot’s Palace, built in 1626. At the churches, you can therefore look at both construction phases and the connection between two buildings.
Distinguish Routes by Type and Course
The Nordic walking route starts in the town center and leads to the foot of Święta Góra, via Podlesie and Rozdroże Trzech Buków to the Kruczy Kamień Nature Reserve, then returns to the town center across fields. Its course can be followed through several named points, and the description also specifies the return to the center.
The Graniczna mountain biking trail offers a different focus: at 34.4 kilometers, with some very difficult sections, its route is outlined from the stadium in Lubawka through the nature reserve to Okrzeszyn and Uniemyśl, then back via Rozdroże Trzech Buków. Its length and level of difficulty are specified. The two route descriptions provide different points to help you decide: the Nordic walking route focuses primarily on its course and return, while the mountain biking trail also specifies its length and difficulty.
The green-marked “Święta Góra” trail, meanwhile, starts and ends at the bottom station of the ski lift in Lubawka. Its name, marking and starting point set this route description apart from the other two. Before setting out, check the current trail conditions and markings; if you choose the mountain biking trail, factor its very difficult sections into your plans.
