River valleys, marked hiking trails and historic sites shape Zduńska and Zduńskowolski County. A trip here can be planned around different interests: nature and river landscapes take center stage in Międzyrzecza Warty i Widawki Landscape Park; trails and museums offer further perspectives on the region. When choosing accommodation, you can consider whether you would like to focus your trip more on hiking, nature or culture.

River Valleys and Natural Landscapes

Międzyrzecza Warty i Widawki Landscape Park is the most important nature and tourism attraction in Zduńskowolski County and covers its southern part. Across a total of 25,330 ha, it protects the valleys of the Warta (Warta), Widawka, Grabia, Oleśnica, Nieciecz and Wierznica rivers. The landscape is therefore shaped by several river areas, not just a single valley.

The park's high banks reach up to 45 m. They offer sweeping views across the landscape; the banks also reveal ancient limestone formations. Wetlands are part of the natural environment, too: they provide breeding habitats for waterbirds. Wojsławice Nature Reserve is one of the forest nature reserves in the county. Visitors wishing to combine nature and culture will also find a historic palace and manor complex in Wojsławice.

Hiking and Cycling Trails of Different Lengths

There are three PTTK-marked routes in the county: two hiking trails and one cycling trail. The red “Uroczyska i rezerwaty” hiking trail is 16 km long. It runs from Zduńska Wola railway station through dense forest complexes and the “Wojsławice” and “Jabłecznik” nature reserves to Męcka Wola railway station. From there, you can return to Zduńska Wola on Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna trains. You can take the route's length into account when planning your day.

The green “Wokół Zduńskiej Woli” hiking trail is 22 km long and connects Zduńska Wola, Zapolice, Strońsko, Beleń and Poręby. The two marked hiking trails therefore differ in length and route. Near Strońsko, a hiking trail also runs for several kilometers along the edge of the deep Warta River valley. For cyclists, the blue “W środku Polski – ziemia znana i nieznana” trail, at 61 km long, offers another way to explore the area over a longer distance.

The Łódzki Szlak Konny also runs through Zduńskowolski County. This bridleway offers various forms of equestrian tourism: individual or group rides for amateurs, carriage rides, trips in Western wagons or sleighs, more demanding riding in suitable landscapes, historical reenactments and hippotherapy. The offer therefore goes beyond riding and includes different ways to experience the landscape along the way.

Churches, Manors and Regional History

In Strońsko, the Church of św. Urszuli stands on a high bank of the Warta. It is considered one of central Poland's oldest religious buildings and was built as a Romanesque church in the 13th century; it was later remodeled several times. The porch contains a semicircular stone tympanum of unknown origin. It depicts a basilisk devouring a grasshopper, framed by interlaced ornamentation.

The palace and manor complex in Wojsławice brings together buildings from several periods. These include an eclectic palace built by the Siemiątkowski family at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a brick Neoclassical manor house from the first half of the 19th century, and the remains of a brick fortified manor from the 16th century. Separate from these are the remains of a knight's castle on an island in a small pond: the Wężyk family had it built of brick around the middle of the 16th century. Parts of the walls of two rooms in the southern section and remnants of a tower have survived.

The Izba Regionalna in Wojsławice holds more than 5,000 exhibits on folklore and folk traditions from Zduńskowolski County and the Sieradz region. In Zduńska Wola, the Muzeum – Dom Urodzenia św. Maksymiliana Marii Kolbego presents the stages of Father Kolbe's life and work: from his hometown through Poland and the world to his sainthood and martyrdom in the starvation bunker at KL Auschwitz. Zduńska Wola is described as the saint's birthplace and baptismal place; the Szlak św. Maksymiliana Kolbego, over 62 km long, passes through the city.

Another perspective on the city's history can be found at the Skansen Lokomotyw in Zduńska Wola Karsznice. It includes an Izba Historii with documents on the work of Zakład Taboru Kolejowego and a model of the Karsznice railway settlement. By prior arrangement, the Muzeum Historii Miasta Zduńska Wola offers access to a regional library, museum classes and guided tours of the city and its surroundings. When planning your trip, you can weigh nature trails against the different ways of exploring the county's history.

In Zduńska Wola, city history, the Kolbe exhibition and railway history complement the county's nature and hiking attractions.
