Springs and nature along the Pilica
At Niebieskie Źródła, a nature trail crosses a walkable dam to the main spring pool; five stops lie along the route. This connects the distinctive spring area with a trail that gives structure to nature watching. The picturesque karst springs are part of the reserve, as is the refuge for numerous bird species. If you enjoy combining scenery and exercise on a trip, this trail offers a specific focus for time outdoors. Its location on the Pilica’s right bank and in the buffer zone of Sulejowski Landscape Park gives the reserve a clearly defined landscape setting.
Underground grottos and their stories
The Groty Nagórzyckie offer a different way to explore mining history. Their approximately 160 m-long underground tourist route was created in artificial excavations left behind by a former sand mine. In the central part of the excavations, it runs through two parallel, illuminated passages. Historical and themed exhibitions explore the grottos, while local guides share numerous legends associated with them. Here, the shape of the underground spaces, their origins in earlier sand mining and stories about the place come together. Compared with Niebieskie Źródła, the focus shifts distinctly: there, karst springs and a bird refuge shape the nature theme; here, the emphasis is on artificially created cavities, exhibitions and legends.
By bike or on the Pilica
The 22 km-long blue cycling trail, Szlak rowerowy niebieski im. Juliana Tuwima, starts at the PKP/PKS railway and bus station in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. Its length, trail marking and starting point give the route a specific place in your travel plans. Most kayaking trips on the Pilica’s blue water trail start in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. This gives you two different active ways to explore the area: a named cycling route with a stated length, and kayaking trips that usually set off from the city.
A river museum with a unique beginning
The Skansen Rzeki Pilicy is Poland’s first open-air museum dedicated to a river. Its first exhibit was a wooden watermill relocated from the Łuciąża. The museum adds a cultural perspective to nature and active routes.
