Czarne Błoto: Literature, Cycling Routes and Accommodation
Accommodation in Czarne Błoto
Czarne Błoto brings together several different points of interest for your trip to Poland: the literature of Kazimierz Wierzyński, a historic cemetery, and routes for cycling and hiking. This means the town can be understood in terms of more than just a single activity. If you are looking for accommodation, consider whether you would like to connect your stay primarily with literary and historical themes or with an active tour.

Literary traces of Kazimierz Wierzyński
The poet Kazimierz Wierzyński’s connection with Czarne Błoto goes back to his family history. His family lived in the town during the interwar period, and Wierzyński himself stayed there several times with his parents, Andrzej and Felicja. They died in 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising. These personal ties give the town’s name a concrete literary context rather than making it seem merely like a stop along a route.
Wierzyński’s poem “Czarne Błoto” also recalls his connection with the town. It appeared in his final poetry collection, “Sen mara.” For travellers interested in Polish literature, both the poem and the poet’s family history are central. The two aspects tell different stories: the poem preserves his connection with the town, while his visits to his parents add biographical context.
Cemetery and landscape
Czarne Błoto is home to an Evangelical cemetery dating from the early 20th century. As of 2025, the cemetery was no longer in use. A PTTK hiking trail led to the cemetery in 2019.
The landscape connection includes the “Strefy Krawędziowej Kotliny Toruńskiej” protected landscape area. The areas in Czarne Błoto covered by the development plan lie within this protected area. This classification applies to the areas covered by the plan, not to every area in the town as a whole. It complements the literary and historical themes with a landscape designation established through planning.
Distinguishing cycling and hiking routes
The 57.1-kilometre “Toruń–Bydgoszcz” cycling route passes through Czarne Błoto. Its total length offers a different point of reference from a route that runs locally through the town: the stated distance refers to the entire named cycling route. The cycle route was marked on the ground in May 2003.
There are also two distinct points of reference for hiking, differing in time and location. In addition to the PTTK hiking route that led to the Evangelical cemetery in 2019, a 12-kilometre excursion led by PTTK was planned for 2023. It was to run from Górsk via Czarne Błoto, Cegielnik and Błotka to Toruń. The 12 kilometres refer to this planned excursion, while the 57.1 kilometres refer to the cycling route’s total length. The two figures therefore describe different tours and should not be read as comparable sections of a route. Before planning, check the latest information for any route you intend to use.
