Złotoria combines local heritage with a specific route along the Drwęca. Its distinctive features include the rafting tradition, a historic site near the castle ruins and the yellow Route 2. When planning your visit, it is particularly useful to know how the historic stops differ from the route directions: the route is 7 km long in total, while the section from the church to the ruins is listed as approximately 1,000 m.

The Flisak and local history at Plac Flisaka

The Flisak sculpture stands at Plac Flisaka, at the entrance to the village. It commemorates the centuries-old tradition of timber rafting and the difficult work of the rafters. Złotoria’s symbol was ceremonially unveiled there on 15 September 2013. The square also features an information board about the village’s history, a fish-shaped carved bench and seating for walkers and users of the cycle path. You can plan to stop here to learn about Złotoria’s history before turning your attention to other aspects of the village.

Another striking feature is the mural in Złotoria, which covers an area of 120 m². Together with the sculpture, it adds a cultural element distinct from the history of the castle ruins. If you enjoy discovering both public art and historical heritage on a trip, these two features offer different perspectives on the village.

At the castle ruins: a historical connection

In May 1411, Jagiełło, his brother, the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas and Grand Master Heinrich von Plauen met near the castle ruins. At this meeting, they exchanged documents that had already been sealed, completing the signing of the First Peace of Thorn. The history of the site is therefore connected not only with the ruins as a destination along the route: it also tells of a specific political event and the people involved. Those interested in the village’s past can consider this historical context alongside the visible reminders of the rafting tradition.

Route 2: wooden bridge, church and the Drwęca

The yellow Route 2 runs from Lubicz Dolny to the ruins of Kazimierz Wielki’s castle in Złotoria and is 7 km long. Along the way, it crosses the historic wooden bridge over the Drwęca and continues to St. Adalbert’s Church. From there, the described route follows an unpaved path along the river for about 1,000 m to the castle ruins. As route conditions can change, check the condition of the route before setting out.

Walks, games and outdoor activities

The Family Recreation and Leisure Park in Złotoria invites visitors to walk, play and get active, and provides a place to meet. This offers a different way to experience the village from the historical route: the focus is on spending time outdoors together and enjoying leisure activities, rather than covering a particular distance or learning about a single historical event. If you would like to include a range of interests in your trip to Poland, you can explore the rafting tradition, the history of the castle ruins and the park’s recreational facilities as separate attractions.
