Wiele – Nature at Lake Wieleckie

For those who want to experience nature in Wiele, Lake Wieleckie is a particular highlight: the nature reserve, a tourist path leading there from the village centre, and an observation tower by the protected area make birdlife a defining feature. Natural landscape at Lake Wieleckie

The Lake Wieleckie Nature Reserve protects breeding, feeding, resting and occurrence areas for numerous bird species. It covers 102.76 hectares. Path and observation tower

A 410.4 m-long tourist path connects the village centre in Wiele with the Lake Wieleckie Nature Reserve. Along the path are 14 information boards about natural resources, particularly birdlife, as well as benches for resting. The route thus connects the village centre with information about the natural landscape. If you are interested in birdwatching, you can make the path a part of your stay and use the boards as a thematic guide.

The observation tower in Wiele is located by the nature reserve and is particularly suitable for observing waterbirds. Its reopening is also an important part of the tower’s history: after being closed for almost a year, it was reopened to visitors in December 2023, then thoroughly modernised and renovated. At the protected area, two different ways to experience birdlife complement each other: information along the path and observation from the tower.

Cycling, Nordic walking and a swimming area

There are also specific options for planning activities around your preferred way of getting around. The Nakielsko–Mrotecki cycling route passes through Wiele. A marked Nordic walking trail runs from Mrocza through Wiele and Rościmin, and also passes through the village. You can choose between the two depending on whether you prefer cycling or Nordic walking.

Another connection to the water is Lake Mintarz (Miętus) in Wiele, which has an unguarded swimming area that is generally used for swimming. This differs from the focus at Lake Wieleckie, where the particular importance lies in birdlife and the nature reserve. When choosing where to visit, you can therefore consider whether you are mainly interested in the natural landscape and birdwatching, or would also like to be near a swimming area.
