Historic religious buildings and collections about the region give Mogilno a distinct cultural profile, while cycling routes add an active focus. The Klasztor pobenedyktyński is particularly multifaceted: the Benedictine monastery and its church were built in the 11th century on a small hill on the northeastern shore of Jezioro Mogileńskie.

Monastery History and Church Art

The monastery church retains its original form as a Romanesque basilica, enhanced with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque accents. Its architecture therefore brings together a Romanesque basic form and several later stylistic touches. The western crypt also makes the building notable: it is considered one of only three crypts of its kind in Europe.

Another church in Mogilno is the Fara – kościół św. Jakuba Apostoła. The Gothic building dates from 1511. Its main altar features a painting of Saint James the Elder from the 18th century. Mogilno thus brings together different chapters in the history of religious architecture and art, from the medieval monastery to the later altarpiece.

Regional History at the Museum

The Muzeum Ziemi Mogileńskiej combines local and everyday history across several exhibitions. The permanent exhibition “Dzieje ziemi mogileńskiej” includes guild documents and historic banners from 1919, 1923, 1927, 1929 and 1946. The exhibition “Pradzieje ziemi mogileńskiej” reaches further back in time: it displays tools and everyday and ritual objects from the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age through the Middle Ages and into modern times.

The museum also focuses on the region’s folk culture and art, crafts and residents’ everyday lives. The exhibitions offer different perspectives: a timeline from early periods to modern times, and a look at the region’s culture and everyday life.

Park and Summer Events

The Park miejski z amfiteatrem letnim i fontanną is located in the centre of Mogilno. Its features include a fountain as well as renovated paths with new lighting. The summer amphitheatre has 300 seats and is used for concerts and outdoor events in summer. If attending a concert is important to your visit, check the event dates in advance.

Cycling Routes and Historic Railway Line

The two cycling routes described here differ mainly in their approximate length and course. TRASA nr 8 (MDW) is about 14 kilometres long, runs around Jezioro Wiecanowskie, and starts and ends in Mogilno. TRASA nr 1 (MSK) covers about 28 kilometres: it connects Mogilno with Kalwaria Mogileńska and then leads back to Mogilno. This means a shorter loop around the lake is set against a longer route that passes through Kalwaria Mogileńska. Neither route is marked, so bear this in mind when preparing and check your directions before setting off.

Another option is the Zabytkowa Linia Kolejowa Mogilno–Orchowo. The 20.8-kilometre historic railway line is open to travel and includes 25 bridges and viaducts. These include a 44-metre-long bridge over Jezioro Mogileńskie and a 43-metre-long bridge over the Noteć. Railbike rides are occasionally held along the route. If you are planning a ride, check the dates in advance.
