Wielkie Leźno lies entirely or partly within the Górznieńsko-Lidzbarski Landscape Park. Jezioro Wielkie Leźno is a moraine lake; its shores are generally shallow, and the slopes of the lake basin are gently inclined. The lake covers 92.4 ha, is up to 4.1 m deep, and has an average depth of 0.8 m. Within the Górznieńsko-Lidzbarski Landscape Park, Leźno Wielkie is considered one of the particularly clean lakes.

The use of combustion engines is prohibited on Jezioro Wielkie Leźno.

Routes and bodies of water

The 68 km-long “GLPK Gravel 2024” gravel route also passes through Wielkie Leźno. The 44 km-long blue hiking trail from Górzno to Bachotek passes by the lakes Małe Leźno and Wielkie Leźno and continues to Zembrze.

Jezioro Wielkie Leźno is a pike fishing lake; perch can also be caught between its two islands.

History and villagescape

Wielkie Leźno is one of the localities with well-preserved historic settlement layouts. Earlier names for Wielkie Leźno include Grosze Lezen, Grose Lesnaw, Lesnycz Wielki, and Gross Leszno. In 1410, Wielkie Leźno was owned by the Chapter of Chełmno.

Wielkie Leźno has a settlement structure arranged along the road. The village contains historic wooden houses, including House No. 12 from the second half of the 19th century and House No. 24 from the first quarter of the 20th century. There is also a brick roadside chapel dedicated to Our Lady from the second quarter of the 20th century.
