Town history in its layout and buildings

Szamocin developed from a former noble village of medieval origin. Its well-preserved town layout dates from the 18th century and offers a distinctive way to explore the town’s history: alongside individual buildings, you can also appreciate the historic development of the town plan as part of its heritage.

Among the notable buildings is the parish church pw. NMP Wspomożenia Wiernych, built in 1905. The former Protestant church pw. św. Piotra i Pawła, dating from 1877, represents a different era. The two churches therefore differ not only in name but also in the period in which they were built. Anyone interested in architectural history will find several specific points of interest in Szamocin, rather than just a single date.

A half-timbered granary dates from 1845. Hallera Street is also home to the clothmakers’ houses (domki sukienników), dating from the 18th or 19th century. Szamocin is also home to the house where Ernst Toller was born, adding a literary connection to the townscape alongside its architectural history.

The “Urok miasta” walking route is about 3 or 5 km long.
