Scenery between lake and mountains
Falsztyn stretches above Lake Czorsztyńskie. Nearby, Zielone Skałki lies between Falsztyn and Niedzica on a promontory that extends into the lake. The limestone cliffs there drop steeply 80 to 100 metres to the water. The area itself is not open to tourists. However, an unpaved road and a cycle path run along its southern border. If you use Zielone Skałki as a point of reference, be mindful of the boundary between this striking landscape and the paths that run through the area.
The meadows and pastures are also part of Falsztyn’s character: more than thirty plant species grow across these extensive areas. With a little luck, you may see a falcon, eagle, buzzard, or hawk.
Traces of history in the village
An old Spisz settlement has been preserved at a bend in the road on a side ridge of the Spisz Mountains. The remains of a small Spisz market settlement and several old wooden farmsteads also lend Falsztyn’s villagescape a historic dimension. If you are interested in the village’s architectural history, you can also visit the manor house of the Jugenfeld and Salamon families. This allows you to look beyond individual scenic impressions and focus on the historic buildings and traces of settlement.
Another stop is the Our Lady Queen of Poland Chapel. Local residents converted a former farm building into the chapel in 1982; before that, it was used as a granary. Mass is listed at the chapel for Sundays and public holidays at 9:00 a.m. On the wooded outcrop of Sokola Skała, local tradition associates the site with a small medieval castle or monastery.
Cycling through Falsztyn
A cycle route runs through Falsztyn, taking you towards Frydman and on via Dębno to Nowy Targ. In the other direction, it leads to Niedzica Castle. On the Velo Dunajec Route, there is a short but steep climb near Falsztyn. Take this route feature into account when choosing your day’s ride, rather than planning solely by route length.
The southern section of the Route Around Czorsztyn Lake follows the Velo Dunajec Route from Niedzica through Falsztyn and over the side dam in Frydman to the bridge in Dębno. This section is about 15 kilometres long. For planning, the places along the route and the steep climb near Falsztyn are particularly useful points of reference.
